MoogFest 2010

How was your Halloween? Mine was full of some of the most popular electronic music live in my current city of Asheville along with thousands of people raging in whacky costumes throughout a weekend. On top of that I had my fellow IRD member, CPT Hyperdrive and comrade Derek Johnson along with me.

The mountains in Western North Carolina are filled with bearded individuals, bluegrass, beer, and of course electronic music. One of the creators of the synthesizer, Bob Moog, started his music business in Asheville producing instruments suited to electronic music. Today, Moog Music is a leader in the technology of analog gear suited for electronic styles. MoogFest 2010 was the first annual event held in Asheville dedicated to the legacy of Bob Moog.

Favorite Set: Jonsi. I never heard of this group before the festival, but they blew me away when I caught the end of their set. The combination of music and sights created such an intense atmosphere in Thomas Wolfe that everyone had their jaw’s dropped.

Solid Sets: Big Boi, Thievery Corporation, El-P, Pretty Lights, Mimosa, Massive Attack

Biggest Surprise: Alex B. Short set, but he played some killer dub step, had people going crazy.

Biggest Disappointment: RJD2 being over capacity at the Orange Peel. He should have performed at a bigger venue.

Would have like to seen: Gramatik, Dam-Funk.

Best Moment: Yelling in the tunnel walking out of Pretty Lights.

If you want to experience the Halloween of a life time you have to come to Asheville and experience MoogFest. No candy or trick or treating, just great music and raging.
