"I thought you said you want to be successful? He said, "I Do." He said, "When you want to succeed, as bad you want to breath, than you will be successful." I don't know how many of y'all have asthma here today, but if you ever had an asthma attack before. You short of breath, you wheezy (gasp). The only thing you trying to do, is get some air. You don't care about no basketball game. You don't care what's on TV. You don't care about nobody calling you. You don't care about a party. The only thing you care about when you're trying to breath is to get some fresh air, THAT'S IT! And when you get to the point, where all you want to do is be successful, as bad as you want to breath, than you'll be successful. I'm here to tell you number 1, that most of you say you want to be successful, but you don't want it bad, you just kinda want it. You don't want it badder than you want to party. You don't want is as much as you want to be cool. Most of you don't want success as much as you want to sleep. Some of you love sleep more than you love success. And I'm here to tell you today, if you're going to be successful you've gotta be willing to give up SLEEP!"
I truly believe in this statement, and I repeat it in my head constantly to remind myself to work harder. The parties, women, watching football, sleep, whatever, don't mean shit to me unless I gain my success. From my experiences, most of y'all people don't want success. I see it at school, when everyone can't wait to leave class to hangout. I see it on everyone's Facebook status, where they can't wait for the weekend to relax. I see it on the holidays, where everyone can't wait to get together and party. My audio engineering school is a prime example. Out of the numerous students who have the opportunity to use the studio equipment, to learn and work with others, it's myself and only a handful of people do I see there on regular basis.
While most of you were watching fireworks on the Independence Day, I was in the lab. While y'all were saying "Happy Birthday" to me on August 4th, I was in the lab. While most of y'all were partying on Thanksgiving Eve, (biggest party night of the year) I was in the lab. Don't get me wrong, I do relax, I do go out, and I do party, but compared to my past, it is a rare occasion I allow myself to do these things. If you do see me out, there won't be a drink in my hand, except for a water. I run on 3-5 hours of sleep daily, because I'm working until my eyes start to bleed. You have to understand I'm doing this right now without seeing any paper, or getting proper recognition, but I want this so bad I'll go into the red to reach my goals.
Everyone in the IRD team has the same mentality. Endless hours of sleep have been sacrificed, and thousands of dollars have been spent to make this happen. If this is the method to success, I have no mothafuckin' doubt in my mind that we will be successful!
DO YOU WANT IT? If so, then stop making excuses, stop finding reasons to relax, party, or chill. Those things won't get you success.
