Welcome IRD friends, fans, music listeners and everyone else checking this blog. Happy 2010 and I hope this will be the best year of our lives because I believe life can get better every day as long as we stay true to ourselves and strive for progression.
This blog will be used to help spread the word about the Illest Rhyme Droppaz. Expect a lot of free downloadable exclusive tracks. There will be pictures, posted lyrics, beat making and studio session videos. This isn't all about IRD, it's about the music. Any artist that you need to hear, we will let you know about it. As an avid concert goer, I'll be telling the stories of my adventures aided by pics and vids. Who knows what else will be included, this is just the beginning. I am very excited to start this blog because it will allow more people to experience our music and allow the fans to know what IRD is really about.
For those who don't know us, it goes like this:
Spitty Crack aka Onaipid (Emcee)- middle
Brucey B(Producer/Engineer/
Pianist/Emcee/Vocalist) - top right
Cpt. Hyperdrive (Producer/Engineer/Emcee)-left
Ox the Prophet (Emcee/Prodcuer/Vocalist)- bottom left
Jballs (Emcee) -right w/ the wings on
Currently, Ox the Prophet, Jballs and myself (Cpt. Hyperdrive) live in Stony Brook. Spitty Crack lives in Charlotte, North Carolina and Brucey B lives in Asheville, North Carolina. We have been friends since junior high school and making hip hop music since that age.
Our MCs have very different styles, but complement each other nicely. Spitty, well known for his writing abilities, is the lyrical one and the true poet of the group. In my opinion, one of the nicest upcoming kids in the underground circuit because of his experience (writing and spitting since 12), creativity, and insane work ethic. Ox lays down verses that melts in the ears with his deep, smooth voice and every changing, unique flows. He can create and lay down a hook like Nate Dogg, which is a huge asset in a hip hop group. Jballs is on that automatic AK-47 rapid flow with punch-lines that will have you have you laughing your ass off and pushing the rewind button. Brucey B man has that soulful, pure tone and has a tremendous voice that was acquired and polished in church choir. Myself, well, I am relatively new to getting on the mic but my style is starting to grow. I am extremely conscious about my lyrics and my delivery is emotional. The best part is we all love various types of music so that gives us the ability to write to any style of beat.
We have an eclectic sound drawing from all different genres of music. IRD samples from Jazz, Funk, movie soundtracks, Rock, Classical, Soul, Foreign and Blues. Artists we have sampled from range from Sade, Jefferson Airplane, Nancy Sinatra, Moody Blues, Stevie Wonder, Kenny G, E.L.O, Santana and many more. And how do we make these concoctions of sound?
Pro Tools 8 w/Xpand2 instrumental, PSP modulation,
Izotope Ozone, Boom and Vacuum plug-ins
MPC 1000
Technics 1210MK-2 Turntable
MicroKORG
KORG K61 MIDI Controller
KORG Triton
Behringer VSX 300 and Pioneer DJM 400 Mixers
Crates Of VINYL!!!!
Brucey B also goes to school at UNCA and has access to various other programs such as Abelton Live, Reason, and even vintage Moog synthesizers. We also love the live shit, so we have used guitars, bass, trombone, piano, and drums before and this will continue.
IRD will continue to push the limits of sounds and are willingly to do work with artists of all types of music. This year expect some crazy shit (only way to describe it) coming out of your speakers or headphones and saying Illest Rhyme Droppaz on the Ipod screen. Shout out to SAOLENTERTAINMENT.COM and Kenny Bergreen for his support of IRD and music in general. Without his help, this blog would not be possible. Be on the lookout for business ventures with IRD, Saol Ent., and Boston based clothing line, Annie Mulz. Next post will have 3 of the newest IRD tracks available for download with a breakdown of the production of the beat, the concept, and lyrics. Much love to anyone who supports IRD!
